Schools Reopen with BE Change Support for Meals, Teachers and More
BE Change is excited to report that class is back in session in Bihar! Schools have reopened and our partners Prema Metta Orphanage School Trust and Bhavishya Me Free Education School are educating their students with our support. We’re proud to bring you this update on important projects that we’ve recently funded to ensure that students return to school with the resources they need to succeed.
Meals
At Prema Metta, BE Change has funded the school’s meal program through the end of 2021. This impactful program has fed 50+ students nutritious food each school day since 2015. The funding means that Prema Metta students can count on a healthy lunch and a light breakfast each school day and devote more time to their education.
At Bhavishya Me, BE Change recently funded a distribution of dry food for over 100 students. Bhavishya Me has struggled to raise the funds needed to construct a kitchen and is currently unable to provide regular lunches at school, but the school’s founders saw an opportunity to help students and their families during the COVID-19 pandemic by providing dried food to supplement meals at home.
Students received rice, lentils, cooking oil, soya chunks, spices and hand soap. The distribution has provided needed support to Bhavishya Me’s students and their families during this difficult time as the pandemic continues.
Teachers
Teachers deserve all the support we can give them, and we’re proud to announce that we’ve funded salaries for four teachers at Bhavishya Me through the end of 2021. Before partnering with BE Change, Bhavishya Me had difficulty securing reliable funding for salaries and teachers sometimes worked without pay. This funding means that Bhavishya Me’s teachers can count on a reliable source of income for the important work that they do.
Festivals
At Bhavishya Me, we’ve funded the cost of festival celebrations through the end of the year. This funding means that students can look forward to celebrating important Indian festivals like Children’s Day with their classmates and teachers. BE Change believes these festival celebrations play an important role in creating a supportive school community and help make the school building a focal point for children and their families.
